Seagulls – Ordinary Time

Every year I participate in a art show with  The Halo Foundation, a non-profit group that supports 21 orphanages throughout South America, Africa and the US. I Recently made this piece for a group show entitled Ordinary Time. Poet Graham Murtaugh wrote a poem a day for a year about the beauty in the every day.  20 artists were given poems to make a piece of art for, and then donated the pieces for sale, here is mine.

I’m pinned down by seagulls
and the weight of gold
in their feathers

I flap my arms to soar
and find myself
in the sand

The surf in my ears

Ghostly feet glimmer
at the tide line then vanish
in a breaking breath

This is a dream I’ll have again
once for each grain of sand
once for each fallen feather
